I killed the vegetables

For all those who know me probably know that I enjoy cooking every now and then and most often I cook some form of meat or the other. Primarily because that's what I enjoy the most. Now this is not going to be some post about the ancient never ending veg vs non-veg debate.

Most of my vegetarian friends always complain that I never cook anything they can eat so this time when I tried my hand at making some Paneer tikka I figured it was time to put the complaints to rest and documented the whole process as evidence that I do (as rarely as it might be ) cook some veg food as well.

Oh and wish you all a very happy Diwali (the connection is that this Paneer was for a Diwali BBQ)

The Party I observed...

Have you ever been to a party and observed... I mean everyone goes to parties and dances.. has fun chills... but sometime.. just once maybe you should just observe ... this post is about the one time I did just that ..

Big party loud music most people are half drunk ... some people sitting others blaring into the karaoke mic... still others dancing to the songs others are singing and there I spotted across a long table a girl ... young, fair don't know her name so lets call her Ying and then there was a guy again young, fair don't know his name either so lets call him Yang, it seemed like he din't know Ying very well ... a friend`s friend I`m guessing. The two seemed to be having some sort of conversation ... the general kinds... safe topics .. about the weather, work health... the party went on Yang`s friend, the same that was Ying`s friend started to get quite high and could not help but sing along with every song and kept insisting that Ying and Yang join the fun ... they both seemed happier with the conversation .. I guess it must have moved on to more interesting subjects.
It was a matter of time before Ying and Yang re positioned their seats to face each other more ... well Yang was practically sitting across the table ... one would get the feeling he wanted to be close to her but I could be mistaken, maybe he was just trying to be heard... I gave him the benefit of doubt, but that dint prevent me from noticing when broke the touch barrier and when she responded with a gentle giggle .. but then again maybe he had just said something funny that I couldn't hear while simultaneously finding no other place to place his hand other than on hers.

The night went on and along comes another guy ... young, slightly taller than Yang again din`t know Ying very well but knew Yang well enough to want to sit at the same table...lets call him Yoong conversation ensued now Yoong adding his two bits, Ying reacting similarly to both Yang and Yoong and Yang does not seem very happy about it.. he needs another drink... gets it and gets back in the game... a few more drinks later its time for Ying to leave and it seems like while Yang is some points ahead of Yoong, Yoong is not letting go without a fight so they both go to walk Ying to her car and she drives off into the ... well its already night so she does not drive off into the sunset but she drives off and I guess she never gave Yoong or Yang another thought..

Please Note: This is not a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents are a product of what the author saw. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is because it happened or seemed that way.

The brain is evolution compatible

The mind they say is huge and we only use around 10% of its full potential in our entire life. How then, at times we feel like our mind is going to blast? How at times we feel like there is too much to handle, how we feel that things are beyond our understanding? Where is the remainder of the 90% of our brain then? Or is it some sort of envelope? Something that has to be over clocked to the extent that it bursts at the seams and then allows us to use say another 20% of brain power??

Or are we just a hardware that is evolution compatible our brain has certain parts that we don’t have the software to run! We have still not developed the codes to do things that our brain will be able to control like for example we will discover wormholes and teleportation will be a reality and a part of the brain will be dedicated to controlling that process. Maybe telekinetic will be another part, maybe we will have USB port and part of our brain will be the 54.7 Ghz processor to run it. The possibilities are infinite maybe wireless communication will happen mentally. Only the future will tell but it’s important that we keep our minds open… never know when the new software comes about and we have a whole new look to life.

Thou must be Crazy .....Crazy is good

Insanity as a way of life is gaining popularity…. The Joker put it very nicely .. Insanity is like gravity… all you need is a little push.

Insanity .. it is not a state of mind, it is not an abnormality, it is a way of life. It is a choice of living life in the absence of convention, in the ignorance of tradition, the freedom to make your own mistakes and learn for yourself. Insanity, the way I know is doing what you love and loving what you do.

It is the absence of control, the absence of knowledge. It’s like writing a novel without knowing the ending, so that you can enjoy it as you write. Insanity is eliminating the concept of understanding. Not needing to understand things as they stand because they stand, not needing others to understand your actions, your thoughts and finally the elimination of the desire to understand yourself. That is true insanity… true freedom … true life J

Lions are like Rockstars

I was randomly having a conversation with a friend about animals and how some of them I respect and others I don’t really have a great fondness for. When this thought randomly came up … I don’t respect Lions … lionesses I respect… lions I don’t … they are like Rock Stars they have long hair and don’t really do anything… have a whole female following (think groupies) ....just get a lot of fame and glory for just appearing.

I rest my case

The divine council of heaven and hell

A while back I was thinking to myself as I do quite often and was wondering how these things work.

Proposition 1: Good people go to heaven and sinners go to hell.

Proposition 2: Heaven is relative concept and everyone has their own hell and heaven.

Going by the two above mentioned propositions now lets take a third fundamental that opposites attract, now say there is a person A who is a very good person[1] and a person B sinner of the highest order[2], supposing A is madly in love with B if A is to go to heaven, A’s heaven cant be complete without B but B must go to hell so how does that work?

I got a couple of interesting responses;

If B is a random person that A is madly in love with for all you know being with A may be Hell for B and therefore there is no problem

If B is not a random person, A loves B and B loves A also, then depending on what B wants more, to be with A or to see A happy in heaven the opposite will happen since B is destined to be in hell.

A third argument that I came across is love trumps sin so lovers will be together.

Now the question: A dies destined to go to heaven, A’s heaven in complete without B, B is alive what will happen?

Class Contradictions

The last week of every semester is interestingly so different from every other week of every semester that is the week of the exams. It is so very interesting to note the stark contradictions in the way we perceive a class room to be throughout the rest of the semester vis a vis the last day.

Through out the rest of the semester, the place that is also known as a seat is nothing more than a place to rest our backsides on while being able to do what ever we desire to do in class obviously subject to ones own level of interest and attention. However on those 6 fateful days the seat not only brings with it luck both good and bad, the positioning of this seat means so much that at times we even forget that it’s the same seat that spent the last 4 months being weighed down by your backside or that of someone else. We bother about the distance from the window the distance from the fan the distance from the door, and then for some the distance from the other person who has studied for the exam. The seat becomes our world, our domain our little kingdom where you are king the examination your war and your pens and pencils all your knights and bishops.

Similarly the time spent in the classroom during those last 6 days is less than 3 hours everyday compared to the over 6 hours on every other day; it seems like such an eternity, an event, a time that is almost enough to make a person age. The class which forms a major chunk of a normal working day, we get up go to class, come back do whatever there is to do and then go back to class the next morning. During exams every time we visit that classroom it’s a whole new experience, it seems like a totally new battle, a totally different world. Although the time duration between coming out of that room and entering it is slightly over 21 hours it seems like a new feeling all over again, with a new subject, having in the last 21 odd hours unlearnt one and learned another subject being as prepared as the limited time can possibly allow one to be for the new exam on the new day, the class room is to be revisited almost like a six day curse during which the same ritual has to be repeated for 6 days consecutively before the cursed can be free in mind and soul and hostel.

Obama and the almighty

A while back someone asked me to write something about what if Obama were to become the president of USA, so i thought lets make this interesting and radical and this is what the outcome was.

The election of Barack Obama as the president of the most powerful country in the world will naturally have several impacts. While US foreign, trade and military policy would not be affected at all, as there is little difference between Bush, McCain and Obama on these, there would be several that are more far reaching. The biggest interest in the election is clearly Obama’s color.

Never before in the last 234 years of the American democracy has a non-white become President. Given US’s self proclaimed leadership of the world, this should inspire Christians around the world to review the ethnic profile of Jesus. History tells us that Christ was born in the Middle East, a Jew by race and a West Asian or Palestine Arab by ethnicity. However in most portraits of Christ, he is represented with Nordic features - fair skinned, blue eyes, brown haired, very unlike his Asian self. This, the oldest form of racism, is also the most widely propagated. With the US people shouting their preference loud and clear, the dark skinned will no longer be the backward race. With Christ regaining his true color, mankind will be lead by two powerful role models that will change the color of the world.

Paradigm shifts will be seen in various fields like illustrations in school books and nursery rhymes.[1] There would be a change in color in fashion magazines, advertisements and beauty contests. All these will show the beauty of the dark skin and pale beauties would be accepted only to prove the liberal credentials of the organisers. Fair and Lovely would be replaced by Brown and Beautiful and matrimonial advertisements in India would praise the bride’s darker values.

Steven Spielberg would struggle with white humor and Afro-Americans will proudly call themselves black instead of colored euphemisms. Idioms like ‘colored view’ would change to ‘whitened view’ or ‘pale outlook’. Sports writers would bemoan white dominance of swimming or fencing as unnatural and emerging from some longer muscle fiber the whites have.

Michel Jackson will decide that black is the new white and go for another plastic surgery to regain his original skin colour, causing a stir among his fans and media that would elevate him for being a carbon copy of Christ. There would be a mass appeal from the Caucasian, ‘white’ would of course be politically incorrect, world to Nelson Mandela that he was not being fair (dark ?) by focusing his activities to the part of the world privileged to be born black.

Black magic would have to be renamed and so also the dark arts and black humor. Being fair in dealings would not be a complement and unfair trade practices not such a pejorative. Would judges discard their black robes for white gowns and nurses and the Pope don black uniforms ? I wonder if this would carry to changing hair dye colors too.

eyes are blue, lovely too

Chasing the car

I was having a rather random conversation with a rather random conservationist nothing too serious nothing sincere either. When suddenly the question of relationships cropped up, started with this rather random conversationalist telling me about crushes were not people that this rather random conversationalist liked. Which got me thinking what is the difference between a crush and infatuation and say liking and then going on to really really liking and finally the coveted love.

This rather random conversationalist asked me what the difference was and of the top of my head I answered with an example that in retrospect I think was quite interesting.

A Crush is like a dog chasing a car that it knows it can never catch and even if by some stroke of divine intervention he does catch it the dog will have no idea what to do with it.

An infatuation is a man that neither knows how to drive nor affords a car is running behind one, so he still doesn’t know what to do with it if by luck he somehow manages to catch it, but apart from catch it he has no chance anyway cos he definitely cant buy one.

Liking, is a little more complex, it’s a man that can afford a car and knows how to drive sitting at home researching on the internet about what the car is like and if or not the car will suit him and will he suit the car.

Then comes the next stage or the post homework stage where you have kinda decided on 2-3 of your top choices and you go around to the show rooms looking at them, ask people who own cars what owning a car like that one will be all about, but you know that your car will be different, people who give u bad opinions about that car you really like are either crapping cos they couldn’t have it or cos they don’t know how to drive it right.

Dating, another interesting concept, it’s very simply the test drive.

Finally love is going to that showroom with your check book in the pocket and being ready to sign that check and after the test drive the only thing that can come in the way of you and the car you so badly want now is un availability.

Of course if the car is available and the check is signed congratulations you are now officially going out. ;-)

Tom and Jerry: The other side of the story

Since we were little kids we have been shown Tom and Jerry, the sweet, funny, cute four legged, four fingered cartoon characters of Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse. Tom runs after Jerry, the battle commences and the battle is won by jerry. As kids we are all very happy and rejoice as though good won over evil once again, till the next time the Lion roars and Tom and Jerry starts again.

Now as such I'm not at all a cat person and the people who know me even a little will be able to vouch for this statement any given day or night. However what I wish to show you is the other perspective, the perspective that is not shown to us, the perspective of the employee that does everything wrong every time, or the Tom perspective.

What we see is a cat chasing a mouse, well that is what cats are supposed to do, ask an Egyptian and he will tell you how from time in memorial that is what cats have been doing and that is what everyone wants cats to do. So Tom is not the villain here he is actually the unsuccesfull valiant that keeps fighting for what is his duty. Now in every episode, a number of times Tom runs after Jerry tries to catch him, Jerry doges him for a while and then gets caught once in a while and then escapes again, during which Tom is subject to such intense forms of pain like heavy weights to bowling balls to electric currents to the unimaginable. Yet Tom has never given up, he gets up strightens him self up, at times by blowing his thumb to recover from the injuries that the road roller gave him, and continues his never ending persuit for Jerry the Merry. I think every now and then while watching Tom and Jerry we must spare a thought for the warrior in the cat and as they say a little appriciation can go a long way.
